VIH/SIDA nos jornais portugueses: construções visuais e linguísticas, discursos e género

Abstract

Este artigo questiona a representação visual do VIH/SIDA na imprensa portuguesa, partindo de uma abordagem da semiótica social (Kress e van Leeuwen, 1996) e de uma perspectiva feminista (Lazar, 2005). Pretende destacar o modo como se combinam os discursos usados na construção visual do VIH/SIDA e os usados na sua construção linguística, prestando especial atenção às diferenças e semelhanças entre representações de mulheres e de homens e aos discursos de género. Pode ser visto também como exemplo de uma forma possível de articular a Semiótica Social da imagem visual com a Análise Crítica do Discurso (e.g. van Dijk, 2005) numa análise da construção do género no discurso jornalístico.

This article discusses the visual representation of HIV/AIDS in the Portuguese press from a feminist perspective (Lazar, 2005), using a social semiotic approach (Kress & van Leeuwen, 1996). It aims to show the relations between the discourses used in the linguistic and in the visual constructions of HIV/AIDS focusing on co-constructions of ways of performing sexual differences and on the role of gender discourses. This research also intends to provide an example of how visual Social Semiotics and may be articulated with Critical Discourse Analysis (e.g. van Dijk, 2005) to analyse gender in newspapers’ discourse.
