A temática
qualitativa e a quantitativa.
(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) versão 20.0.
colegas a beberem.
Abstract: Bullying is a recent worldwide problem that gained increasing importance in society. Although it can be very noticeable, it is many times unrecognized or not even admitted as a problem. This subject still slightly explored at the Higher Education level. The aim of this study is to investigate if there is Bullying among students from the University of Minho, particularly its influence on binge drinking. Alcohol abuse among college students is a serious problem that should not be overlooked and, therefore it is important to create solutions to minimize it. For such, it is essential to understand what leads young people to drink to excess, if by personal choice or by peer pressure influence. This theme fits in social Marketing, which will be used to find possible ways to fight the problem. Consequently for this research, two types of approaches were adopted: a qualitative and a quantitative. For the qualitative approach, interviews were conducted with the purpose of understanding the study, while for the quantitative approach, an online questionnaire was performed in order to understand if Bullying exists in the context of alcohol consumption and if students recognize it as a problem. The questionnaire was sent by the institutional email to all students of the University of Minho, yielding a sample of 452 students. Then the results were collected, processed and analysed by the SPSS program (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 20.0 version. The results revealed that numerous students, many without recognising it, have witnessed and/or have been victims of Bullying in order to boost the alcohol consumption. Moreover, this study revealed that those who are already drunk are who most press and force the colleagues to drink. As this problem is observed especially in praxis, it is suggested that the students involved in these activities should be the main target to solve this issue. |
