Planeta terra como um ser vivo em mutação : que contributos apresentam os manuais escolares do 1º CEB português?

Abstract

No momento em que a Natureza do Planeta Terra é um dos temas mais debatido em quase todos fóruns de pesquisa e educação, tornou-se pertinente proceder à análise dos conteúdos desta temática nos manuais escolares portugueses, do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico (1ºCEB). Foi construida e analisada uma grelha baseada na de Ecologia e Educação Ambiental do Projeto Europeu FP6 BIOHEAD-CITIZEN. Foram selecionados três manuais por cada ano escolar do 1º CEB, tendo sido escolhidos de entre as editoras com maior difusão no distrito de Braga. Em todos os manuais consultados tornou-se evidente a valorização dos saberes de vida previamente adquirido pelo aluno, antes de iniciar a sua vida escolar. O meio comum é principalmente o Rural, com identificação e classificação das espécies animais e vegetais. Valoriza-se o cuidar dessas espécies, como por exemplo: saber criar e tratar os animais domésticos, ter conhecimento básico sobre a Sementeira, o Plantio, o Cultivo e a Colheita de hortaliças e frutas. As imagens são em grande parte figurativas, com uma mensagem puramente estética. Torna-se necessário incluir exemplos reais de espécies animais e vegetais ameaçadas de extinção, devido à caça excessiva, ao cultivo intensivo, ou à destruição pelo uso insensato do Fogo. Também seria interessante ensinar sobre os elementos vitais da vida (Ar, Água e Fogo), destacando os seus benefícios e malefícios. Verificou-se a necessidade de se propor determinadas recomendações, com vista à sua melhoria, na perspetiva de proporcionar à criança conhecer e desenvolver competências no sentido de preservar e recompor o seu habitat, contribuindo também para o meio ambiente global, ensinado como um Ser vivo em mutação.

Nowadays that the Nature of the Planet Earth is one of the most debated subjects in almost all Forums of research and education, it is pertinent to examine the contents of this theme in Portuguese textbooks of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (1º CBE). A grid was constructed and analyzed based on a grid of Ecology and Environmental Education of the European Project FP6 BIOHEAD-CITIZEN. We selected three textbooks for each school year of the 1st CBE, having been chosen among the publishers with more diffusion in the district of Braga. In all consulted textbooks, it became evident the emphasis on the pupils’ previous knowledge before starting their school life. The Rural environment is the most common, presenting identification and classification of animal and plant species. The care for the species is valorised, as for example: to know how to grow and handle domestic animals, to have basic knowledge about seeding, planting, growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables. The images are mainly figurative, with a message purely aesthetic. It becomes necessary to include actual examples of animal and plant species threatened with extinction due to overhunting, to intensive cultivation or the senseless destruction by fire. It would also be interesting to teach about the vital elements of life (Air, Water and Fire) highlighting its benefits and harms. It was found the need for proposing some recommendations with the goal of improving children’s knowledge and competencies to preserve and restore their habitat, also contributing to the global environment, being taught as a Living Being in a changing environment.
