estabilidade política do país, e o crescimento percentual do PIB do país africano. Deste
This project is founded in a personal curiosity that has been fueled by the media, many scholars, and international organizations. The main questions are as follows: “What are the main reasons attracting the Chinese investor to invest in African countries? What do they seek in these countries? How should African nations attract more Chinese investment?” After a long period of reading and studying, I was able to identify variables related to these questions that were relevant and supported by other authors in other studies. Specifically, a few variables were related to these subjects in particular, and others were “transported” from similar subjects, i.e., the same questions but different case studies. After this stage, the next step was the creation of the database using the Stata software package. Then, the generalize method of moments (GMM) estimation method was used to identify the variables of great relevance to the Chinese investors. These results led to the conclusion that the most important variables in Africa for the Chinese investors are as follows: the amount invested by the Chinese in the previous year, level of corruption control, government efficiency, political stability for the country, and GDP percent growth for the African country. These results also lead to the conclusion that Chinese investment does not solely focus on the available mineral resources but also is dependent on the political stability and the economic growth of the country. These results are as helpful for African countries that want to attract more Chinese investment. They can dedicate more attention to their politics in order to improve these variables, which will in turn also increase their attractiveness for other international investors. Africa is not simply a market for resources but also a good place for opportunities and a future wider beyond the oil reserves and the great mines of coal and iron. |
