dc.description.abstractThis paper is the starting point of a two-year research project about the impact of Globo Television in Portugal. The research project will mainly expand on the issues covered in this paper. The aims of this paper are two-fold: firstly, to analyse the relevance of the Portuguese television market to Globo; secondly, to examine the importance of Globo's telenovelas in Portugal since the 1970's as well as the consequences of the recent transfer of Globo's capital and know-how to a newly created commercial television channel in Portugal, Sociedade Independente de Comunicação (SIC).eng
